98 frame swap
hey guys i got a bike that the frame is junk on its a 98 cbr 900 and i was wandering what year frames were interchangable with the 98 year. i kno there is only one other year but i forgot if it was a 97 or a 99 so if u guys could help me out that would b great iv been putting this project off all winter so far and tonight i fianally got thinking about it again and decided i need to just do it rather then having the bike and doing nothing with it.
93-95 had a single bolt for the fairing stay, and there was a change to the frame on the upper rear portion (if you look at the side view of the frame the 96-99, near the rear is angled towards the front). Should be a direct swap.

The '98-'99 frame is exactly the same. '96-'97 frames will work but had a more shallow rake angle. In '98 they reduced the steering head angle slightly (5mm if I remember correctly) but they lengthened the frame the exact same ammount so that the bike would have the same wheelbase. The '98-'99 frame is also stiffer
So, you can use '96-'99, everything will mount up correctly. But if you want it to ride exactly the way it was designed to, then buy a '98-'99 frame.
