Default Maintenance/Oil question.

It seems that the fella I ;purchased my bike off of fell of the face of the earth so heres my question to you guys. (I'd call the Honda Shop but they aren't open right now). My bike only has 13XX miles on it, and has been maintained through a Honda dealer. Do they continue to run the GN4 petro oil throughout their maintanence schedule with low miles? I am reading that it is too early to switch to a syn or syn/blend right now, but I want to change the oil since this motor is barely broken in. Thanks.

Switch to whatever you want, whenever you want. There is no rule for what oil you use after your break-in period is over. You can use Full syn, syn blend, motul, mobil1, Amsoil, Pensoil, castrol, 5w40 10w40, IT DOESN'T MATTER.

If it's JASO-MA rated, then use whatever gives you a hard on. don't make this difficult, it's basic. here's a tip:

Conventional oil - change earlier than recommended (has been shown that it brakes down quickly)
Semi-synthetic oil - change at Honda recommended interval
Full-Synthetic oil - leave in longer than Honda recommendation

My concern is if the dealer did switch to a full syn and then I add a petro or semi (like the Spectro Golden I have). I have always been told that this will not lubricate parts correctly. I am going under the impression of whatever the dealer maintenance schedule is for these bikes is what type of oil is in it right now. He said the bike did sit for about a year until I purchased it. Trying to be smart about my choices on maintenance. Thanks for the words, I am going to switch to Spectro Golden 4 semi most likely.

Because they are stuck in the 80's when synthetics were in infancy. the only thing you should worry about is the break-in fluid that comes from the factory. keep that in there until it's ready to be drained out. it's not normal GN4...
