Default Looking at a wrecked 06

I am looking at buying a wrecked 2006 Cbr600rr with 2500 miles on it. It hasan Insurance brand title, not a salvage title. The left fairings are a little bit scratched up on it. The rear seat looks like it is popped up out of place and the rear rim is broke. Also if you look at the bike from straight behind the rear fender doesn't look like it lines up perfectly with the back wheel. I don't really know anything about these bikes at all. How easy does the frame bend on them? The guy must of wrecked pretty hard ifhe broke the lip off the back wheel, but the rest of the bike seems to be fine. The blinkers and mirrors are still on it and not broke. Maybe the swingarm is bent??? What seems to be the most common thing to happen when a bike is crashed? Also when the bike is on the kickstand it is almost standing straight up and down at a 90 degree angle? Any help would be apreciated. Thanks, Matt

Depends on how much he is asking. From the sounds of it, it was wrecked pretty bad and will most likely need a new frame. I would say no, it probably is not worth the trouble.

If the frame was bent wouldn't you think it would have a junk title or at least a salvage title? The bike is at an Insurance Auto Auction.

If the frame is jacked it will be a salvage. How much for it?

You can pick one in decent shape around 5 to 6k.

From the sounds of it... the frame could be fine but the sub frame could be torqued a little or swing arm. Subframe $250ish, Swingarm $450ish, Rear wheel $300ish.

Don't quote me on those prices because they are rough estimates that i've seen on ebay here and there.

The subframe is probably bent which isn't a big deal. It would take a big wreck to bend the swingarm or frame. If you can take it for a test ride you could see how it handles.

I got a spare swing arm for my '04 600RR off some kid in San Diego for $100 + Shipping. Work the forum classified's at 600RR.net, and you'll find those parts way cheaper than that, though about $250-300 for a rear wheel is about right.

It takes alot to bend a swing arm... believe me, I've done it with a 17 ton press (don't ask)

I'd say the frame is probably ok, but you'll need a new swing arm and sub frame... any pics you can get and post would be a big help. It sounds like this bike got hit from behind if all the damage is in the rear.

take a look at this one, sounds like a damn good buy for just needing fairings on one side

I really don't know how much it would go for because it is a auction. But I am thinking around $2000. Can't test drive it because it is the insurance company's property, and the rear wheel is broke. I would buy one thats not wrecked but don't have the cash so I figured I'd buy a crashed one and fix it up, little by little over winter. Also don't have any pictures of it because it is on the auctions property and I could only see it because it was right up against the fence. I'm thinking just the subframe is bent because the rear seat is popped up out place and the rear fender is not straight with the rest of the bike(wheel/swingarm). If I do buy it hopefully you guys could help me out on how these are put together because I work on cars and snowmobiles, not bikes-yet. Thanks for the replys! I was also looking at a getting a new set of fairings for it off ebay. Are the ones from Hong Kong any good? Thansk again!
