Default Gutted Airbox MOD?????

ive heard about this and have absolutely no clue what it is, if it has any performance gains or if they r just ''claimed'' gains n what not...wondering if any one else has heard of this or done this, and if they noticed any difference or not. Since i searched for some time for this and came up with nothing i figured i would make a thread about it.

Be careful, you might make it worse. On my dad's VT750 shadow I did an airbox mod (carb not EFI though) and it made it almost unridable due to the massive flat spot and the crap running at higher rpm after the flat spot. A bit of jetting, exhaust baffles taken out, advanced the timing about 4 degrees and he loves it now. From what I've seen on dyno charts, it's gone from about (don't laugh) 39hp to up into the high 50's. Definately a good, cheap performance mod on a carb'd bike.

LOL i mean..ehh hemmm.. i wasnt laughing...no it makes sense to me that changing anything with the air/fuel ratio would make huge differences in performance and before i do ANYTHING with the performance of my bike i like to do tons of research before hand...ive only heard of doing this but nothing on how..or what the benefits of it are or how to do it properly i.e. custom map or anything...thats y i threw it out there..thnx for the heads up

If you're stock airbox can keep up, then why not just try a re map or at least ask at bike dyno place if airbox mods are needed?

Yeah, they need a section where you ask the experts. Have you ever been on thumpertalk? You can tak to suspension specialists, engine tuners etc directly on the forum. Really handy. I got some good shim stack set ups for my CR250R from a dude that runs his own GNCC race team. Shame there's nothing like that on cbrforum.

Ur best bet would probably be full exhaust and a high flow filter. Then get your custom map and you will be all set.
