RE: chain
I don't think he was asking about cleaning the chain, just the wheel. I disagree with the whole only use kero thing. Anything is ok as long as you don't soak the chain in it. I use a petrolium based degreaser but only leave it on for a few minutes and them wash it again with detergent and hot water.
As for my bike. It's all together except for the body work. I took it for a quick ride on the weekend and it's all good. Was only about 10-15 min as there wasnt any body work except for the tail and stop light. I was going to ride longer but everyone was looking at me and I was worried if a cop saw my I would be done big time.

RE: chain
I was a sales rep selling DID wholesale for 5 years and never had anyone have a problem cleaning chains with degreaser as long as it's not left to soak. The O rings on modern chains are very resiliant as most aerosole cans of lube use some form of thinner to make them easy to apply. Thats why if you spray it out it's very runny and then after 10-30 seconds it goes all thick and sticky. However if you soak the O rings in strong petrochemicals for a long time. And it doesn't matter if it is kero, petrol or even thinners (only the time will change) the rubber will always soften and then when the O ring dries out it also hardens and that is where most of the damage comes from. So if you use the chemical only long enough to disolve the chain lube, which shouldn't take more than a minute or so if it is kept fairly clean.then wash it off you will cause minimal if any damage and the damage you may cause will be much less than the grit and crap that would be stuck in the lube and acting as an abrasive whould of caused..
Here endeth the lesson and thank you for reading my dribble.
