Default Buy the 2006 or 2007 model??

I am trying to decide which CBR600RR to purchase. Do I go with the 2006 model with numerous upgrades ie, exhaust, steering damper, chain and sprocket kit, power commander, braided brake lines. Or go for the newer 2007 model that is bone stock. They are both relatively close in mileage and price.

plan on modding the 07 yourself? then it will end up costing more.
2006 sounds like a good deal comparatively.

the 07 is what I would buy. I rather upgrade/mod a bike myself than trust someones elses work, unless of course I knew them. The 07 is worth more, handles better, a good bit lighter, and not as bulky.

It comes down to which do you like the looks of better tho.

Definitely the 07 IMO. It has about 5-10 more HP in the mid-range (your everyday power use), its lighter, less aggressive ergonomically and you get to do your own mods. Not everyone has the same taste in parts. I really enjoyed doing all my own stuff, especially the wiring. I know its done right (soldered and heat shrinked) and not simply twisted and covered with electrical tape (ewww).

The big costs would be a new muffler, power commander (although not necessary if you only get a slip-on) and the fender eliminator. That stock mudguard and tailight is hideous. Braided lines are only important if you do trackdays, otherwise its wasted overkill. So if you can afford it, the '07 would be a superior bike.

07 all the way. Honda made several HUGE improvements to the RR in 07, so there's a noticeable difference. The 06 and 07 are very different beasts.

+1 to the 07'...just make sure to give the bike a good look over before you buy and make sure you ask plenty of questions.

thanks for the input guys. I bought the '07 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. It wasn't completely bone stock. came with flush mounts, HID's and corbin seat. My integrated fender eliminator kit just arrived today. Can't wait to get rid of the factory brake and rear turn signals. yuk!

Absolutely, the 07 onwards is a lighter and more powerful bike ... I managed to ride an 05 model last year and my own 08 model simply had much more noticeable midrange power, it felt like a bigger capacity bike in comparison.

They really made huge improvements to the 07 onwards 600RRs and these are the ones to go for, especially stock ... they really don't need any modding

+1, I am the same way, I would much rather mod my vehicles myself than trust someone else's work...It is sad to say, but some people just do a horrible job on something that should be simple.

Good choice on the 07
