Bike is sitting while im away. (need advice)
Im away from my bike for 3 months while im in my tech school for the military. Im keeping it at my moms house while im gone. no one around there knows how to ride or i dont trust them so i've just been getting my mom to go out about once a week and start the bike up and let it run at idle for like 10 min. Just curious if thats an alright thing to do. i just dont want the bike to be sitting there for that amount of time doing nothing but collecting dust. Any suggestions if this isn't what i should be doing. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would add some fuel stabilizer (seafoam or stabil) and fill the tank to the top. Run it enough to get the stabilizer into the system.
If you want to keep your battery good/fresh, then I'd get a battery tender. Wally World sells a pretty inexpensive model that has worked fine for me.
Other than that... you should be fine.

I'd think having your mom idle it for 10 min is going to kill the battery. The stator doesn't produce enough power at idle to fully charge the battery from what I have seen. More power going out than in.
Have her put some stabil or seafoam in it and leave it alone. I think running it is just going to make matters worse. Battery tender or take the battery out. 3 months is about what us Yanks have to put up with as a winter. Bikes are fine with something to stabilize the fuel during the time we can only look at our bikes under snow banks
