How long have you been riding, and how many miles? This is one of the oldest and most often asked questions. The simple fact is 90% which most likely includes you cant ride a 600cc sportbike anywhere near its potential. Im not trying to insult you but give you advice. Your better off spending money on dialing in the suspension and spending time at the track learning skills than trying to get uneccesary power increase out of it.

Don't think there is a such thing as a "quick" power increase that's "not too expensive". Most inexpensive performance increases aren't anything really tangible.

A tangible power increase will cost money and won't be quick.

Fast, Cheap, Reliable...You can only pick 2 of the 3.

We're talking motorcycles here. On a bike, you can only pick 1

Depending on "which" bike you're talking about..I would agree. If you're talking 900RR's, then YEAH...Only 1.

Well if he went with the 'standard' upgrade (K&N, slipon, rejet, dyno tuning) at a shop, we're talking about $800 - $1000. That's a lowball guess btw. Guessing the cost of the dyno runs + tuning I can't guess because he has a carburetor, not an easily programmed FI system and a PC3. So he's gonna get bent over where ever he goes for the dyno tuning. Cheap & fast are out the window. If he goes with DIY and the 'butt' dyno, Cheap is back in. Fast and reliable are waaaaaay gone.

And all that won't significantly increase power. What it will do is smooth things out, make power availible sooner and longer. If he wants a significant power increase, all three are gone. Full exhaust, race jetting, pro dyno tune, ect...

IMO, fast is out with all of that. If he actually gets 10 more hp to the wheel, he'll be very lucky. It'll be expensive as you said, and it'll still be reliable. He can go with piston kit, cams, head professionally done, and it'll be considerably faster. It'll also still be relatively reliable but sure as hell not cheap. It'd help to know what he is expecting to gain...then he can see if the wallet is fat enough.

Heh, I meant "Fast" as in getting it done quickly. Tuning a carbed engine even with a dyno is gonna a long affair (multiple dyno runs + jet / needle adjustments). Shop will prolly keep the bike a couple days I think if he wants it done reliably (and if the shop's work is reliable)

Ye Ole Faithful "Butt Dyno" is prolly closer to a week+ of frustrations and multiple tear downs

I hear ya! I have a close personal friend that owns a dyno and it still costs me a small fortune for a day of dyno pulls. He has to eat too ya know LOL. I normally just use it to get going in the right direction and fine tune it at the strip.
