I just bought a bike and I'm having the same exact problem. Would you recommend I change the fuel cut relay before I do anything else? Is there a way to test the relay to see if its faulty?

Hey dc5baker, if everything I described above sounds like your same problem, then, yeah, I would replace your fuel pump relay. Mine was just cutting out intemittantly every 4-5 miles. It was never same distance but is was always when coming down from higher speeds or from a longer stretch of driving. It would never die in stop and go traffic because pump could catch up at the lights. What kind of bike do you have? Some have the pump and the cut out relays seperate. I'm pretty sure mine being a 99' CBR 600 F4 does have seperate relays. I know for sure that it was the fuel pump relay, no confusion there. Hope that helps!

I have a 2000 F4 but everything you said describes my problem exactly... riding around at cruising speed, bike bogs and dies, pull over and choke the hell out of it, and your good for another few miles.

Is your bike fuel injected or still carbuerated? I think in 2000, they went to straight fuel injection which may be a completely different problem. If it is carbuerated, then I would go out and but that relay tomorrow! I had people tell me to drain tank and check or replace filter sock on petcock in tank. I also had someone tell me the carbs need to be cleaned and synced. I did do all of these things but still had same problem. The carb synchronizing helped out tremendously on throttle response and smoothing acceleration, but still died down the road. The guy I bought bike from said that CDI box (computer) was the problem. I even bought one of those and still nothing. Fuel Pump Relay has to be the problem. I'd bet all my money on it! I have a good CDI box if your interested in trying it. Let me know if relay works.

Hey, I got this off the Honda Parts Nation website. The part number is 39793-SV4-003, the description is RELAY ASSY., POWER (5P) (MITSUBA). I found my paperwork from when I got my relay and part number and description matched exactly. I paid $32 at my local Honda dealer. They are selling same relay on Honda Parts for $22. I don't know if there is a shipping charge but should still be cheaper that way. Hope this helps!
