location and cleaning carbs
hi can someone tell me where the location of the carbs are for the f4? and also what is needed to be done to get to the carbs and clean them (ie. what cables to remove etc.)? pics would be awesome. i want this to go as smooth as possible. thanks alot guys!
If you dont know where they are at on the bike you probably shouldnt be cleaning them yourself. It's not like dusting them off will do you any good. You actually need to disassemble them and clean the jets, (main, intermediate, and idle) as well as the needles, bowls, etc. And it required you taking them apart as well as synching them once you get them back together. Not that this stuff is hard, but if you dont know where they are............it seems like you probably wont know what to do once you get them.
They are located under the air box (which is under your tank). On the rear of the engine. I dont know what all you have to remove but the tank and airbox forsure as well as any vacume lines, throttle linkage, and fuel supply lines there are.
Good luck.

lol, my dad is a motorcycle mechanic and i will be doing it with him. he knows what he is doing but it makes the process 10 times faster if we know where everything is and what is involved. pics and directions would be awesome. thanks alot for the help!
I dont have an F4 so I cant give you any pics. Plan on taking the side fairings off for easy access, the seat, the tank, the airbox (this will be the worst part) and then the carbs. Give your bike a once over and you'll be able to figure it out. Take 10 minutes to look at all the bolts and how it looks like things are held on, and you'll have it apart in no time. I would guess 1/2 hour to get to the carbs, 15 minutes to get them off, then who knows how long to clean them and probably then double all the times to get it back together.
Getting the carbs off is a pain in the neck, it's tight getting a screwdriver in to get the screws holding the pipes onto the engine loose. Sorry I don't have pics atm but you'll be taking the seat off, the tank, airbox (Note the screw in the middle of the airbox if you're gonna open it up and clean/change the filter while everything's off. It would make sense to do it as you're doing the carbs, so as not to just be leaving a dirty filter on for the air to go through into the carbs), then you'll be disconnecting air hoses, the electrical plug on the side of your carbs, the throttle cables, the idle adjuster cable, fuel hoses, vaccum hoses and then the fun of getting the carbs off the engine as mentioned above (enjoy, much as i love working on my bike, i don't particularly enjoy this job lol). hope that helps. If you want some sound advice then I'd say to get hold of a Haynes manual for your bike, I have one and they're worth every penny.
Hey man its not that bad the tank comes off easy. so does the airbox. I have pulled both of these off several time not that bad. I don't have any pics but i do have the F4 manual on my comp at home in .pdf docs i will tell you have to dissasemble you shiznt. But im on the road right now for work. i will be back in FL in 2 weeks i will post it on the forum for yas. it will help trust me.....
