Just bought a 99 f4...few questions if you could help!!
Just bougth my first bike, i basically stole it with the amount I paid. Here are the specs...
99 f4 cbr 600
44,000 miles
runs great, but I'm putting it away for the winter..i live in Massachusetts so I won't be riding for the next 6 months...I want to know is there anything I have to do before storing it?? Any major mechanical problems I should know about?Anything icould probably do to avoid it?? How often for oil change (same as car?)?, It's my first bike...and I like to work on things so I'm going to put it in my garage, tear it all apart and get new fairings and pieces for it. I'm going to polish all the chrome and make it look new again. How many miles will a cbr usually bear?? 44,000 is high but could it go 50,000?? 60,000??
ANY information would help..just trying to get a better understanding about the bike and how to take care of it. I'll post some pictures sometime!!
THANKS

Over 100,000 if properly maintained. Check the valves since its got decently high mileage and you dont know when that was done last. Change the oil for the winter. Fill the fuel tank and add stable. Be sure to run it for a little while after adding stable so that it gets into the carbs. Keep a battery tender on it through the winter so the battery is still alive come spring. F4's are rock solid as long as they are maintained. They can take a beating too though. Oh also check the coolant and make sure its antifreeze and not water wetter or some other summer coolant. Probably change it too just because. Change the brake fluids aswell just for good measure. Also check the fork seals over and make sure they arent leaking. That should keep you busy for a little while, and you'll be more confident in your bike knowing its maintained. Also if you dont have a service manual for it yet, do a search. There's downloadable factory service manuals which you will need.
