Default Bought a CBR F4, have some questions

I am a noob when it comes to motorcycles, and I just bought my first motorcycle, a 2000 CBR F4. It does need a lot of work to it (mainly just need to fix the fairings and repaint; other little things). It has 32,000 miles and I paid $1500 for it. I just wanted something to learn on (I realize 600cc is a bit much...). Anyway, I have some questions. First, it only seems to run if I put the choke on each time I start it, and leave it on for about 30 seconds to a minute. Even if it is 80 degrees, still have to do this. How do I fix this? My guess was either replace the spark plugs or clean/sync the carbs. Or maybe a combination of the two?
Anyway, thanks for any help.

Well, I just bought my F4 a week ago, but it isnt my first bike... what you are asking is really a tough question.. kind of like "my back hurts. What is the problem?"

Since you just bought it, why not pull and check the plugs.. heck.. replace them and gap them right. Then lube all of the cables.. check the choke cable especially to make sure it isnt binding and the choke slider is releasing all the way too. Get it warmed up and set the idle speed according to spec. If you have the time/money/knowhow (whatever is required), clean the carbs.. drain them and pull the float bowls.. see how gunked up they look. the jets might need a cleaning..

BUT.. you never know.. it could be something as stupid as the idle speed, air filter, whatever.. good luck.

Thanks. I'll probably replace the spark plugs and choke cable first.

Kinda bounced around this in several bike sections earlier. IDoDirt posted a great (as usual) explanation with pics. You might want to check it out

How long was the bike sitting before you bought it? Sounds most likely the carbs need to be cleaned really.

I have to use my choke even if its 80 degrees on my f2 and then once started i turn it off. After its warmed up I don't need it yet cold motors typically need a little help. My buddy's yahama is the same way.

I just thought that it was pretty normal for me to choke-start esp. in cold- cause thats why theres a choke there right?
but once its been running itl REstart w. out choke no prob.

IDODIRT's post was super well done!
i would love if it could get modified to have little annotated numbers in the text that would corespond to the points on the photo that are being refered to.
cause if i say "which ones the flux drive actuator?"
and you answer me
" its the one right above the quantum navigation block!"
then that only guides me there if i already know what a Q.N.B. looks like right?
i hope im not coming off as ungratefull- just uneducated. ill look in my manual and figure out what those carbs bits do!
an which wunz r wut>
thanks for sharing that tut. - it is really good and the pictures are really clear!
