A frustrating few weeks!
Well over the past few weeks I've been meaning to start a thread asking for help with a problem or two I have had over this time, and each day I go to start it, I "fix" the problem. So I thought I would make a post nonetheless mentioning what happened incase it happens to anyone else, and asking a question or two anyway. (I am no way a mechanic but I am fairly good with my hands and enjoy a challenge and finding out where different parts are on things and how they work)
So I got my CBR600F4 at the end of November while looking for a good deal rather than waiting until the Summer. Got a good deal on an awesome looking and mechanically sound one (need to post some pictures at some point), took it out for a few rides and had no problems. One night when I was on my way home the front headlight just died on me. The next day I found out that the connection on the front of the bike had come undone, (not sure what the proper name is, but it was where a whole bunch of wires plug into different things). Fast forward a while and the bike was sitting outside for awhile, took it to the airport, sat around for a couple of weeks, back home and again sitting for a few weeks while the heavens opened and most of the UK became flooded.
Finally had a nice day to go out and the bike wouldn't start. The engine turned over and it sounded like it wanted to go but juts wouldn't. I managed to get it started once but it stayed at about 800 revs at idle with choke fully on and then died 30 seconds afterwards. Took the battery out and had to charge it up due to the failed starting attempts.
Few days later, after reading about some things (I bought some seafoam to help me clean the carbs without taking loads off), I mess around with some tubes, sort of took the tank off but not fully, kept trying it and for some reason it magically started, no problems, (I was dumbfounded but seriously happy), stuck some seafoam in the tank, decided to take it out the next day to run it through the system and get some stuff.
Next day, get on it, started wonderfully, turn to go out of the street and nothing, bike died. Started it up again, all good, turned, nothing. then nothing worked, lights, power, engine nothing. Upset and annoyed and took a quick look over the bike and couldnt see anything loose, parked it up, went back over everything I did the day before. Nothing going on, getting more and more pissed off. Eventually went to the front of the back, to the large cluster of wires (from the headlight problem), and found another set of connections disconnected. Annoyed that I had done so much stuff I didn't need, decided to go on a quick little ride before something else happened to stop me riding.
Anyway, that is all. Quick question, anyone know how I can stop things disconnecting from the front of the bike, I've tried to rearrange the wires a bit but it still looks like it might bit a bit tight when I turn right.
Also, any hints or tips for a long journey on the CBR? I did the same ish trip I'll be doing on a 600 hornet last year, and learnt a lot like trying to pack less (difficult because Im not just doing a trip, I'm travelling to stay with my parents for a few months), stretch before getting on the bike. Just wondering if there are any specific tips to this bike?
