what did i get myself into! "new" 95 cbr600
The throttle cables are not the same. Don't be shy, go ahead and remove the cables and see if they move freely when they're off the bike. Do you have all the little springs in place that are between the carburetor linkages ? This is where carburetor 3 and 2 fit together. The spring that's leaning over sits on top of that tab that's sticking out of where the throttle cable attaches to. There are springs in between each of the carburetors.
ok, just looking into that area with a flashlight, i'm fairly sure i have my spring in the wrong place, here is your picture with where i believe my spring is, would this incorrect position explain why the throttle wheel isnt returning all the way? i detached my cables and used fingers to pull it open to see if it would snap back correctly and it only goes about 3/4 of the way back, if i want to return it completely i have to press on it to go all the way in. should i go ahead and take the carbs back off to get a better look? does it even make sense that i could have gotten the springs in that position?
okay i took the carbs off (again
) and took a couple pictures of how my springs are....i believe that the last picture ( spring between 3-4) is the only one set correctly? please help i am getting sick of carb work lol
spring between carb 1 and 2

spring between carb 2 and 3

spring between 3 and 4

also, do i have to take the carbs apart to move the springs or is it possible to get them out with the extra work?

they look good man, honestly mine didn't snap back into place as soon as I rebuilt my carbs, after a bit of ride it started working correctly. there could be nothing wrong with it. Your choice

well i've had a bit of a set back on the bike, along with waiting on parts but a couple updates and questions tonight. I had been trying to adjust the throttle cables to snap back properly and went ahead and ordered new ones, but encountered another problem while waiting for them to come in. long story short, my gas tank never got clean enough and reintroduced all kinds of filth into my sparkling clean carbs, stuck up the floats and fuel backed up into the air system, it was pretty much streaming out of the outer air vent cleaner vent tube. i just pulled and cleaned the carbs (3rd time if anyone but me wants to keep track lol). my air cleaners are completely shot though, i found and ordered one off ebay thats for an f3, but i need another one. after looking at them, it seems that i should be able to put on one from pretty much any bike as long as the tubes fit, would that be a correct assumption? i mean they arent exactly a special part, i pulled one of them apart and its bascially a plastic case with foam filter in there. does anyone know or have experience putting one on from a different year/make?
as for the gas tank, im currently looking around for a shop that will just clean and coat it for me, looking to spend about 50 bucks on the project, nothings open this weekend til tuesday but does anyone have any suggestions on places to call? i'm going to give me auto mechanic a call and see if he can do it at his shop.
i'd also like to replace my fuel filter, again can i just get any bike fuel filter that is the same size?
thanks to any who are able to answer these questions or provide any input at all, i'm looking forward to getting to ride very soon, almost there!

Sorry for the long delay in my response (life just gets in the way sometimes). Anyway, I don't recall why I chose that particular picture, but there are 2 springs that go in between the carburetors. They should look something like this. I'm holding the carburetors apart so you can see them clearly. With the carburetors together, the springs are inline with each other.

The upper spring in this photo holds the tab (that is coming off the carburetor on the right) against the adjustment screw. This is the synchronization screw. It appears that you're missing springs that go between Carburetor 1 & 2 as well as between 2 & 3. This would definitely cause unusual idling problems.
You're missing a couple of springs, one on each assembly. I've circled where the missing spring goes in yellow. Without these springs, you'll have no way to adjust the idle speed or get them synchronized at all. Upon closer inspection and comparing with mine, it's not that you're missing the springs, you just have them in the wrong place. If you look closely at the tabs where the springs sit, there is a small little bump on the surface that prevents the springs from sliding off the tabs once they're installed in the right position. The adjusting (synchronization) screw tip should come in contact with the tab of the adjacent carburetor. The spring then holds that tab firmly against the screw. I hope all this makes sense. The way the springs are installed right now, the spring is holding the tab away from the adjusting screw. It is possible (not difficult at all) to install the springs without separating the carburetors from each other.

Here is a photo from a spare set of carburetors I have that show's all the springs in place. (I don't want to hear any crap about how dirty these carburetors are, they haven't been cleaned yet...
). At least you can see what they're supposed to look like.

Thanks for the reply dirt, I did install the springs in the right place when I put the carbs back on this time, I haven't tried to start it because of the gas tank situation (see above post) but just by moving the parts by hand I can see how moving the parts it has made all the difference, I'm extremely confident that this along with my throttle cables soon to be installed correctly my idle issue is all but fixed.
All that needs doing now is installing the new cables so the throttle snaps back, changing the two air vents and fuel filter and getting that dam gas tank cleaned!

okay i can't for the life of my get these cables hooked up?!?!
i have them hooked on the carbs and i'm trying to get them into the spot on the handle bar, but i can't get both of the lines into the holes.
does anyone know what i'm doing wrong from experience? do i need to put them in at the handle bar and then attach them at the carbs?
i can get the top one in, or the bottom one in, but not both. also when i put the top one in, it snaps right back when i roll the throttle, but it seems like even if i could get the bottom one in it would be to tight to move it at all??
help please!

You can put the cables on at the top, but you need to remove the clip-on from the fork tube, slide the throttle off the clip-on and work with just the throttle and throttle housing. After you get the cables attached, then work on getting the clip-on back in position. Usually when working on the carburetors, I remove the cables from the carburetor end. That's the way I'm used to putting them back on. When attaching and the cables, the carburetors are not installed on the bike yet, they're just sitting in the general area above the intake ports. After the cables are on, then I work on getting the carburetors mounted back on the intake.
Kuroshio, I knew someone was going to give me some !@#$, figured it'd be you...
