Default Testing fuel pump dry

Can you test this while not pumping fluid or will it damage the pump. The switch contacts look a little burnt but I cant get the bike to fire to see if it is working. I saw a video on you tube of a f3 fuel pump for sale just hooked to a battery and running dry, but cant seem to find any info on possible damage this might cause.

The fuel pump on F3's is a really simple design. It's not going to hurt it at all running it without fuel in it.

Thanks dirt or should i say space dirt? (Im so curious). i was hoping it would be you to chime in. I have read your fuel pump how to and it looks like those contact switches are probably my problem judging by there condition. And by my symptoms, it seems to be just like im running out of gas(at least while it was still running) And would only struggle to run after sitting for a few seconds and with the choke on. This was very scary at night on a twisty mountain road right next to the river with no shoulder to speak of, luckily a friend lived right down the road and after a good bit of pushing I got it to fire and limped it to his house. I usually dont like to ride at night but thats a different story. I will have to dig up you old unusual things that happen on your bike thread one of these days.
