so is the 520 chain better?
So i have been looking over my bike getting ready for a lot or rideing this summer, So i went up to a guys shop that i know to look into new chain and sprokets, I know the bike had a 525 on it new but for some odd reason my bike had 620 on it? so i got the 520 kit on order, with stock gearing. so can any one tell me what diffence that i might see in the bike? thanks

Chains are measured in two parts.
The first number, is the lengthbetween rollersin 1/8" incrementsand the scond 2 digits represent the thickness of the chain (strength).
So a 520 chain is lighter than a 530. I've never seen a 620 but I'm no mechanic or anything.
I would imagine the difference you would feel would be response since the chain is, "tighter," meaning there is less distance between rollers than you were used to. So acceleration will probably see a nominal increase in responsiveness. The whole drive system will be lighter than before presumably (if you're using aftermarket sprockets/chain). If you're using OEM style chain/sprockets you wont be losing much weight, if any.

i just did this on my bike. pretty easy. you need a special tool to put the chain on if its the 120 link chain. apparently sometimes you can get them pre linked for the bike.
everyone says you need that special tool, but i just made one using a welder and nut breaker tool. it was a clip on masterlink type too. didnt take long at all, maybe a total of 30minutes with the air gun.

with a 520 conversion chain/sprockets....its less weight....less friction....less rotational mass.....which means the chain will whip around much quicker than a 530 and up....
.....farely ez project to do though....youll need to grind out a link....push out the pin....buy a new master link to connect.....then using the chain breaker tool smoosh the pin so it mushrooms at the end and makes the new rivot.
.....take off the lower front side fairing to get to the bolt that holds on the top of the drive sprocket case.....once removed...have someone sit on the bike and apply the rear brakes so when you crank on the drive sprocket bolt the tire doesnt spin......when putting a new front sprocket on....the F3 is 40ft lbs of torque on the drive sprocket bolt.
....rear is ez too....loosen spocket bolts first b4 u jack the bike up....then remove tire....swap sprockets....etc

RE: so is the 520 chain better?
The very first thing I did to the Flying Turd when I got it was replace the Sprocket and Chain(Had a new front sprocket already). I didn't do a conversion and ended up getting a DID chain with a Vortex Aluminum Sprocket(Which I've found out are junk after I got it). So my first time working on my bike I had the wheel off and was changing sprockets and doing a rivet link chain.
It wasn't too hard with hte right tools(Which shouldn't cost you more than $35-40 total).
I'll probably replace my sprocket and chain in a few months and am going to try the 520 conversion. There is a sprocket out there that is Titanium but is $140. However it comes with a lifetime gaurantee so I'm going to give it a try.
