Smaller front sprocket question

Default Smaller front sprocket question

This winter I want to put a chain and sprocket kit on my CBR. I was looking online last night and I saw a "quick acceleration" kit that drops the front sprocket down one tooth. Has anyone one had good experiences with this? I'm just an everyday rider, not really into any top end speed. I guess I was wondering given my riding style, would this be anything that would interest me?

Pretty common kit, -1/+5 (adding five teeth in the rear).

If you don't do a lot of highway riding or distance traveling, get it. You'll be doing wheelies in no time.

I did it and really didn't like it. It was great for doing wheelies but for just cruising I felt like i was shifting all the time and my rpms were always really high. I won't up going to a -1 front and stock rear. I liked that alot more but I also enjoy having a good top end.

thanks for the quick replys.

Triax...did you find the higher rpm's only when you went -1 front and +5 in the rear? Because I was just thinking about going -1 front and stock rear. I was hoping that wouldn't cause you to shift a lot and have high rpm's?

Stock top end is 171mph at redline, 158mph at peak hp
-1/0 is 159mph at redline, and 148mph at peak hp
-1/+2 is 152mph at redline, and 141mph at peak hp
-1/+5 is 143mph a redline, and 132 at peak hp

-1/0 shouldn't be TOO bad, probably better than the -1/+2 for sure, at least for street use. But the -1/+5 just looks rediculous unless you're alway riding in tight twisties, or on a track with a REALLY short straightaway. Keep in mind, (assuming gear ratios are the same for all f3's) when cruising at 75mph indicated, if you gear it lower, you'll be tickling the sweetspot of the powerband. So ya best have some decent throttle control.

I guarantee you put a -1 in the front and stay stock in the rear you wont even notice a thing. The most common is -1 +2 which is what Im running. I still have plenty of first and even at higher speeds the bike sounds fine.

where can i buy -1/+5 sprockets??
i looked a little on line and couldnt find anything.

ill need a chain for them too.
