I don't do wheelies so I don't the spin issue. Strange about the downshift tho. I've done a 4th - 2nd engine brake (accidental ) couple times and the rear wheel stuck fine.

Since its gonna get colder here soon, bout how long was the warm up time for you? And since you mentioned wheelies, how hard were you riding them?

I had one set........ I hated them. The profile sucked as far as falling into a corner..... constantly lost traction in a semi hard lean.... so much so that I was scared to even slightly push things. I felt every tiny gravel and sand spec on the road........ I switched to Pilot powers 2ct and love them....... I cant imagine a better tire. They do wear quicker but actually, any tire that gets traction will wear some.... so its fine by me.....
If you like em..... use em..... just be careful while leaning into a turn.....
