Default Pilot screw removal... tips/tricks?

95 F3.

Well im not going to pay the stealership for a pilot screw removal tool because i despise them, they act like every customer is a newbie and doesnt know ****. so anyways i've read before about people on here taking a dremel tool with a cut off wheel and cutting a small slot into the top of the pilot screw and using a flat head, but i'm too scared i'll cut too deep, get metal shavings all in the carbs, or break the brass when i go to twist it with a flat head. i've also read that people use a tube of some kind of metal, and beating the tip of it into a d-shape like the screw. but i dont remember what size pipe, or what it was made out of it.

am i just being paranoid bout cutting a slot into them? or is there a better method? or should i just quit complaining and buy a tool?

No time now, but I'll post a photo tonight of what the Pilot Screw looks like when it's out, close up. There is a spring, an "O" ring and a washer on it.

Here's the photo I mentioned. A slot is not going to hurt it at all. Remember to turn them in until they stop so you know how many turns out they are.

1 vote for paranoia

You'd only be notching the pilot. Not cutting it in half. And assuming you're doing this with the carbs off (since you kinda have to), there's always compressed air for whatever microscopic shavings the dremel creates
