Right, but you cant take a caliper, powder coat it, stick it in a oven to cure... the oven will destroy everything inside the caliper

 

Yeah- if you went with powder coating you would have to remove all the rubber seals and clean them off. The metal has to be etched, painted then baked at 350 to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. If you already have to take them all apart you mine as well rebuild them. Plus often times the old seal will get damaged by the removal process. If that's too much then stick with the auto zone stuff i'm pretty sure they make it in gold.

 

Powder coat all the way I'm about to have a friend do this for my car when we swap the brake fluid out, Just make sure you don't need the bike for about a day if its your first time powdercoating.

 

The previous post was a buddy of mine.. Anyway. You'll have to pull the rubber boots, take and remove the piston and most likely get new seals. As for the powder coating itself. Its just a matter of choosing the texture and color. Prepping the part is critical as you don't want any hair, dust or oil on the surface. If you want it to last forever then you can media blast it for more texture which will make the powder adhere better once its baked. If you want a good example, I can do it and post up the process... Its very easy just time consuming and if you mess up you have to strip the part and start all over which can suck... I can do two tones and/or if you want it to say something thats cool too... Most people just want their unique design in it. I'll just do a generic caliper from our f3 and post up so you get the general idea? Would some of ya'll like to see that? Or maybe do the f3 set and sell them once I hit 100posts.. Either way it should be a fun write-up.

As far as powdercoating guys, Id have a shop just powdercoat them if I go that route. Still might just clean them up and paint them myself still too.

 

Did you get a chance to get that quote to powdercoat the calipers yet??

 

The autozone/walmart caliper paint kit looks just as good as powder coating .... this thread has pics and it looks fine. https://cbrforum.com/forum/600-modif...alipers-30861/ I'm about to go do it with a kit I got at pep boys for like $10 I'll post before/after pics.
