Id sand it with 600 grit wetsand paper to get it prepped so the paint will stick. I wouldsuggest 400 grit, but thespray paint is pretty thin and the scratches from the 400 grit may show through. The main thing you want to do is remove thesmooth surface and any oils or release agents. Dupli-color makes a real good paint that goes on nice and smooth. I think you can get it autozone or advanced auto maybe even walmart or Meijer.

Important. Make sure you test a small spot first like on the inside of the fairing. A lot of plastics out there do not bond well to paint. you may need a primer before the paint can be applied.

I would spray one light coat, let it tack up then two to three more medium to heavy coats. you want it to go on wet, but not so heavy it runs. Let it tack up between sprays. The best methond I have used is spray something else like the paint can cap the same time you spray the plastics. use that as your guide as to how long to let it dry. touch the painted cap to see if its still tacky or not. 60-70 deg's and the paint will tack up in about 20 minutes or less.

definatly use a primer but dont be suprized if the heat from the exhaust cracks the paint.... i paint cars/bikes for a living and if you dont use true automotive paint something that has a hardner mixed with it and a clear coat on top... you will probably experience some cracking or discolor from the heat..
