Thanks guys, we rebuilt the carb (all 4 pilots were blocked so we replaced these) i checked for spark but there was none, so i can only assume the 30 seconds it did run were the coils last hurrah! i have now changed the coils and leads and also the plug cap resistors, swapped from CR9EH-9 to CR9IEH-9 Iridium (checked the gaps were between 0.8-0.9mm as per the manual and now the bike runs more beautifully than i ever remember) its been 2 years off the road now, so ill be booking an MOT for next week and spend the time changing engine oil and filter, cleaning and lubricating the chain and giving the whole bike a new wax Thanks everyone!
