Default New problem

So this morning before my daily commute in the lovely raining winter UK weather noticed a new ****le with the bike. Wheeled her out of the garage with the ignition on but the bike not started or the lights on, and noticed when i pulled the front brake that the instrument panel illuminated. I would assume i have a crack/fault within the wiring or switches which is sending power to the instruments when the brake is pressed. Anyone had a similar problem?

Cars do this if a wrong bulb in tail lights, back feeds other bulbs through the earth circuit.

That's not a bad shout, had some issues with an out rear indicator last week. Previous owner has fitted some aftermarket LED ones but not weather proofed any of the wiring. I found the problem was that the wiring had come away from the connector block used. Plans where to grimp and refit suitable connectors, will fault find the new fault first now

if the lights are led this can cause a sort of surge through your wiring. LED’s don’t require a lot of power so there’s excess power. One thing you can do is get an LED pulse relay? Maybe even thin wires running to them

The whole wiring needs addressing to be fair, there are no resistors fitted to any of the LEDs to slow the flash rate, no weather protection and surplus wiring added for unused LED strips.
I have some options to consider, 1) convert the whole indicator system back to original, 2) tackle the current LED situation and add the resistors etc, 3) Live with the issues as I will be selling her next year.

hey, Marzie. Pretty sure you don’t have to do all of that resistor bullcrap. That would really suck. You can buy a led flasher relay to do that. It’s pretty much a big resistor that works for all of your lights. As for waterproofing. Heat shrink tubing is the way I went! Just giving some advice! Cheers

+1 for the LED flasher relay, $10 and should solve all the problems

Cheers
