Default Need help bike runs bad in 3rd gear!

Hello everyone, i have a 1998 honda cbr 600 F3 and we can't for the life of us figure out what is going wrong with it. My father in law is a mechanic and i'm pretty mechanically inclined as well but i figured yall would be able to help.

So the problem with the bike is that it runs perfect when it idles, and when you take it down the road it runs fine in 1st and 2nd gear but when you shift it into 3rd and 4th it really boggs down and gets hesitant and then dies and you have to stop and put it back in 1st to start it again, does anyone have any suggestions to what it could be??

we have completly cleaned the carbs 3 times now, checked all of the jets and everything, we have changed the spark plugs as well. i have no idea what it could be!

Sounds like a clutch problem.

Sounds like the Direct Air Injection sytem. Do a search on it. Check the little pre filters on the hose from the Ram Air Duct and the little intake horns in front of the bike are clean and clear. Test the bypass solenoid as per the manual. If there is a failure in that system, do a search on here on how to bypass it. It will run fine with it bypassed if done correctly.

I noticed in another post that you don't have the gauge cluster plugged in. The DIA Solenoid runs off of the speedometer. At 20km/hr or 12Mph, the speedo sends the signal to the solenoid to switch. Sends air pressure to carb float bowls to ballance the pressure between it and the "rammed" air at the trottle bodies. The allows fuel to overcome the pressure and leave the bowls into the fuel circuits. If not working properly it will lean our and sputter and die.
