Hey guys, i have a 1996 cbr 600 f3, i bought it used in the fall and have slowly been doing repairs on it over the winter so i can get it registered come the first sign of spring. I want to bring it in and get everything tuned up, oil and filter change, etc cuz the bike has about 22000 miles on it, was wondering if anyone could give me a ballpark estimate as to how much everything is going to cost. Im still new int he bike world and dont wanna go intot he shop and have them rip me off. Im in no way wanting to be cheap, i def wanna do everything necessary to get it riding smooth as can be so if anyone has uggestions on what i should get done id appreciate the info and price guide. Well you can get the plugs ( ngk) at autozone: part # CR9EH-9 should be about 2-3 bucks a piece. They will usually have to order them for ya, but usually can be there the next day.
Oil is up to you. Many people use many different oils. I use Mobil1 4T 10w40. You can get this oil at a walmart, in the "cycle" section. Its about 8 bucks a bottle and youll need 4. And a filter will be 3-5 bucks.
You shouldnt need wires.
I would get a can of cable lube at walmart while your there, and lube up your throttle and clutch cables. A can shouldnt cost you but 3-5 bucks. And some chain lube wouldnt hurt. Same, about 3-5 bucks.

Anything else?

 

id really suggest do all the repairs yourself. its the best feeling working on your own bike. a shop is just going to be making money of you for something you could easily do yourself. basically blkpitbull covered it pretty good. since we dont know what you have already replaced i would just suggest looking at all the basics. chain,sprocket,oil,oil filter, spark plugs. check your hoses as well. brake lines brake pads all that stuff that is common sense good luck and great choice btw

 

How mechanically inclined are you?? If you're at least decent with a wrench, you can do a lot of the stuff yourself and save yourself a bunch of cash.

Here's some stuff that may help:
- chain maintenance
- chain and sprockets (savings ~$100 or so in labor)
- oil and filter (savings ~$40 - $100 depending on whose ripping you off)
- carb synchronization (savings ~$150)
- valve check - this should've been done at 16k miles (savings ~$250 - $400) - you can also use this one to change your air filter and spark plugs
- radiator flush (savings ~$80 - $100)

Obviously, some of these tutorials will need to be amended for your bike but the procedures are generally the same. Get yourself a service manual (I'm sure it can even be downloaded).
