Default RE: new paint job costs...?

Depends what you want. Sounds like you just want to paint your bike black over the silver? The average cost of a paint job is $1,100 to $1,500 and that includes prep (stripping the original paint, primer, etc.), basecoat, and a coat of clear. If you want graphics, an expensive color [ferarri red], additional coats of paint [dual color] or clear, then it gets a bit more expensive. Again, depends what you want. PPG is a popular and durable paint; most painters go with that over DuPont and Sherwin Williams. There's plenty of paints available, so shop around for a reputable shop that's insured and doesn't have any outstanding complaints [bike dropped off six months ago and still no paint job] and you should be fine. Keep in mind that spring and summer months are busy times for painters, so prices might be a bit high, or turnaround might be slow with the backlog. If a painter tells you your bike will be ready on Sunday, then I'd get it in writing. I've seen too many folks get burned by greedy painters who see further than their abilities (10 bikes in the shop to be painted, but promises you yours next Saturday). Good luck.
