Lifting front end without crane or rafters?
I have a ladder with a working load cap of 250 lbs, I need to lift the front end up from where it is sitting ( only engine and frame installed.) Since I'll only be lifting the front end to pop the forks and front end on theoretically I'll be lifting only half the weight of the bike, correct? I intend on making it a very quick process ; forks in and adjusted tightened, up on stands. Should I be okay? If not what can I do? I have no rafters nor do I have a jack with lifting height capable of getting it high enough. I was looking into similar to a gantry crane-frame but I don't know what I make one out of or if they sell a "frame" like that.
That should work fine. Put a tie strap around the neck of the frame. The weight load at that point is less than 100 pounds with the rear on the ground or a stand.
Update*
Worked marvelously, had weak non ratcheting tie straps and it was 2 am by the time I got started on it. So buying better ones was out of question at the time. Had to manually lift the front end and wedge it up against my body to tighten the strap. Has got to be to most difficult way to go about it, but the job is done.
