Lifting up front end from the ceiling??
I need to rebuild my forks on my 98 f3. I was wondering if the top tripple clamp would be strong enough to rap a strap around it and lift it from the ceiling? It would save me $100 for a stand. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks
Front Stand Hanging stuff from the ceiling scares me -- use the right stuff and have no fear.
Yea I was looking at that exact same stand on ebay. I will probably just buy that. It will be a good investment sense it should last a lifetime. The only thing is with the stands is I have to remove the ram air duct that is mounted under the triple clamp. The means removing the tank and everything. Oh well wont be the first time.
Hanging from the ceiling using the triple trees is fine. Just make sure you criss-cross the supports (e.g. have the left side of the tree be supported from the right side support and vice versa) or you might drop her.
A stem stand would be best but the problem with that is that it requires you to remove the ram airbox (which would require you to remove the side fairings, lower fairings, seat tank, airbox).
I would also suggest putting the rear on a rear stand.

Well I ended up buying the stand and doing my forks that way. I wish I would have lifted it from the ceiling because what a pain it was to move the ram air enough to get that stand on. Take everything off and move the radiator a little. Pain in the a$s.
