Default I having rough starting and low idling problems

I have 1997 F3 and its been giving me trouble lately. I had the carbs cleaned a little while ago and that seems to be when the problems started. After starting it will idle fine. If you ease into reving it up it will shut off. But if you jump on the throttle hard and get the rpms up it revs fine. So today I replaced the spark plugs hoping this would help. After that it only starts with the choke on and continues to do the same thing. As long as the rpms are high it idles fine but when they are low it hesitates and seems to want to die. As far as aftermarket parts I have a K & N air filter and a Micron full exhaust. Does anyone have any clue what my problem could be or what my next move should be. Any help is greatly appreaciated! Thanks alot!!

Only starts with the choke on, which is forcing a fuel rich environment. Ease on the throttle and it dies. Rip the throttle and its fine. Sounds starved for fuel. First, who did the carbs? DIY or a shop? Next, got any duct tape?

Grab some duct tape, block off most the air filter and give it a go. If it runs better, then you got a fuel delivery problem and will give us a place to start.

The carbs were cleaned by a guy in my neighborhood who has been riding and working on his bikes and other peoples bikes for close to 30 years. What you do you mean by block off most of the air filter with the duct tape?

Tear off strips of duct tape and cover the air filter with them. The guy in your neighborhood will know about that one

What you're doing is restricting the air flow. If problems are because your bike is too lean (too much air), it'll improve. It gives a direction to start looking at.

if the weather isn't to cold tomorrow I'll give that a try. So I need to take the tank off, go inside the airbox and cover the air filter completely with tape and then close the airbox and then put the tank on and see how it acts then?

Don't cover it completely. Just want to restrict the air, not cut it off completely. I'd start around 1/2.

i would also drain the bowls on the carbs and check your fuel pump. On my 95 f3, the turminals were corroded. cleaned them up and hadnt had a problem since.
