Default Guides for testing water pump, fan switch etc?

Hi. Does anybody know of any guides a for trouble shooting the coolant system on a 1998 F3? I'm trying to work out why the fan is not coming on even at high temperatures (it works when direct wiried so not a broken fan). I'm not convinced the coolant is being pumped around the system either.

Test fan-temp switch. Do same with thermostat.
Put both in pot of water and bring to boil.
Note temp when thermostat opens.
And temp when switch closes to turn on fan.

Cheers. I've tested the thermostat already and it works fine. Just struggling to test the fan switch. It's going to involve getting the battery off the bike and rigging it all up in the kitchen.
Thanks for the advice.

Here's a super simple question, do you know for sure that that the coolant is getting hot enough to need the fan?
The reason I ask is because I had a similar situation once and turns out I was the source of the issue. I'd been working on my cluster, had it totally disassembled for something. I did that repair job and didn't start the bike for a while. Two or three weeks later I started it for the first time and realized that the fan wasn't kicking on, but the bike was at temp (per the gauge). I troubleshot and troubleshot it. I thought I was going nuts trying to figure it out. I finally had a "I wonder if" moment. It turns out when I was reassembling the cluster I put the temp gauge needle in an incorrect position. It wasn't off by much when the bike was sitting without power but as soon as you applied power, it caused the needle to jump up to display a supposed higher temp. It was showing at temp and higher far sooner than the fluid was actually at temp. I wanted to smack myself. I reset the needle position and haven't had an issue since.

Thanks for the advice.
Use multimeter and measure resistance between terminals. Should be open/open-loop/infinite-resistance initially. Then when set trigger-temp is reached, switch is flipped to closed/no-resistance.
