fuel pump trouble shooting...
finally got my bike together and when i key it on i cant hear the fuel pump come on...i dont have the fuel tank on yet but i didnt think it would matter im not trying to start the bike just roll it over and get a feel for everything... anyway no fuel pump everything else is good i checked my connections and the fuse... where else can i look... .is it controlled by the computer or is there some kind of fuel pump relay... where does the power come from... thanks Ryan
There is a fuel cut-off relay, it's a black square thing that sits in a rubber mount near the fuel pump and cuts power to the pump when the ignition is off. Unless US F3s are different from UKones - what computer?
I had problems with both pump and relay on my old CBR and found that in emergencies 1) the pump runs OK if the relay is bypassed with a piece of wire with a connector on each end, and 2) the bike runs OK with the fuel pump bypassed and the petrol cap/fuel filter line connected directly to the carbs using gravity feed from the tank. Not a long-term solution, I expect, but might be useful. If the pump is OK you should hear it ticking regularly when you get the engine running.
