Default Front Turn Signal problem.

I bought this bike less than a month ago still stock......and last week I repainted it...had the wheels powdercoated...and a few other small mods. One of the mods was to change the OEM front turn signals with some flush mount signals. I picked a cheap set up on eBay for less than $20. Today was the first time I have taken it very far since the new paint and stuff. I rode about 150 miles. When I got home, I noticed the right flush mount turn signal was very loose....just hanging there. After further inspection, I found out that part of the light shaft had melted down and the nut on the back was unable to hold on any longer. Then I checked the left flush mount turn signal and it was brown in color (supposed to be clear) and would not even turn on. I'm assuming it is burnt out.

My question is.....did this occur because of cheap lights?......or could I possibly have some electrical issues (the OEM signals were in perfect working condition though)?......or could it be that these were hooked up as running lights and weren't supposed to be? The flush mount signals came with instructions on how to hook it up with all 3 wires, so I was assuming they would work fine for running lights as well as turn signals. I did notice that the turn signal lights on my dash remained lit at all times after hooking up these flush mounts. So I'm beginning to think that these lights were not supposed to run as running lights, therefore they got extremely hot on that 150 mile trip being lit the whole time.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like bad lights to me, hook up your old OEM ones to see if they work and don't burn out. I guess you get what you pay for!!!
Nice bike BTW.

That's exactly what I was thinking....you definitely get what you pay for. Problem is that I can't find any other flush mounts for an F3. These cheap ones are the only ones I can find. The only other kind are "raised" and bigger. I liked these b/c they sit flat on the fairing.

Thanks for the advice.

I haven't had any problems with mine but they're not used as running lights. I think maybe you're right and it's the heat that's the problem.

Love the red, by the way!

I've been searching for any "slimline" lights and can't find them. Is that the brand name?

Thanks.

Available in the UKunder the brand name 'Bike-It' who market loads of different accessories. I bought them at the Superbike show in north London in February.
