Default CT Inspection

Gonna bring my bike to the Hamden DMV for a salvage inspection next week. Just need any last minute advice. I don't have the insurance adjuster information. Is that going to be a problem? The bike just needed the carbs cleaned and a few pieces. Fairings are all in good shape.

YES!!!! You MUST have the State issued Title, a *damage appraisal,* as well as any receipts and documentation of what was fixed. Also, it has to have all of the components necessary to ride on the road (Signals, mirrors, check with your state).

Some states require you to already have insurance for your bike. TRIPLE CHECK EVERYTHING, as under certain circumstances the salvage inspector can impound your bike, at your expense.

Thxs Johnny! I have the title with the word Salvage stamped on it. It also says rideable or I think is repairable in small print. My friend is gonna help out with bringing the bike to DMV on his trailer. The guy that sold me the bike didn't have the damage appraisel or receipts for the repairs he did. How can I get a damage appraisel? Can I talk to my insurance company?

You need to talk to the insurance company that totalled it, or the shop that appraised the damage for them. That may be a funky paper trail.

I the "CT" in your title meant Conencticut, then they may not require this. Here's what they say you need:

Here are the official steps to repairing and retitling a vehicle designated as salvage:
  • As you repair your vehicle, it's very important to keep receipts from all parts used in the repair. If you use any used parts, make sure to keep VIN numbers as well. You will need these to pass the salvage inspection. Without proper receipts, your vehicle will not pass.
  • You will also need to take photos of the entire rebuilding process and present them at the inspection.
  • When you are ready to have your vehicle inspected, call (860) 263-5491 to set up an appointment. Salvage inspections are given only in Enfield, Hamden, New Britain, and Wethersfield by appointment only.
  • The inspection costs $88 in cash or check, plus a $10 administrative fee if the vehicle has never been registered in Connecticut or is more than 10 years old.
  • The vehicle must be brought to the inspection station on a flat-bed truck or car carrier. It cannot be driven or towed.
  • If the vehicle passes inspection, it will be given a new title, with the word "rebuilt" rHere are the official steps to repairing and retitling a vehicle designated as salvage:

"Rebuilt" titles can be used to register a vehicle through the normal registration process.eplacing the salvage designation. Yeah, they're jerks. Here in IL, they don't even LET you salvage bikes, so be thankful you at least have that option.
