Default CBR F3 Will not stay running

My friendgave me a CBR F3 600 that he had in storage for about a year. It turns but will not fire. I removed the air box and put rags in thecylinders and it ran. "The Bike was running and sounding great as long as I had the rags of gasoline were in the cylinders." Took the ragsout andthe bikewent dead after about 10 seconds. I had the carbs cleaned and it is still doing the same thing. I installed fresh fuel. I made a gas funnel in order to leave the tank off and make sure it was getting gas and it was! Any Ideas?

-Brand New Battery
-Brand New Fuel Pump
-The carbs were soaked and scrubed with a toothbrush
-New Spark plugs
-Today I cleaned the K&N air filter
-bike started and was on for a few minutesbut back fired a few times and cut off

Were the carbs adjusted after they were cleaned?

The rags in the carbs doesn't make any sense because the openings are so closed at low speed anyway that a rag won't hurt the air all that much. I'd maybe look at the spark plugs and see what they look like. It's possible there is a weak spark, but again, the carb thing doesn't make sense.

Anyway, do the easy stuff like plugs, carb cleaning, fresh fuel, charged battery, ect and something should work. (I know you have already done some of that) Also, check some wiring to make sure no mice have chewed their way through.

Possibly putting the rags in will in effect choke the bike. Makes me think fuel delivery. Makesure the fuel pump is working, change the fuel filter (their cheap) and check the lines for debris. If its been sitting the fuel pump may be gummed and the filter is probably shot. The lines may be clogged. Once you get that stuff checked try to run it. I wont be surprised that when it does run it won't run too good. In this case all you can do is pull everything down from the tank to the carbs, or just ride it and see if it clears up. Fresh fuel going through will normally clear up some problems over a week or so.

I got a bike running that had been sitting for 4 years with this basic method and when it ran it ran ****ty. But I rode it everyday when I had time and over a week or so it just started running better. Flushed itself out.

Good Luck,
Ryan

I'd bet my left nut that it is the carbs. Classic signs of no fire with out majorly choking the engine. Carbs may have been cleaned but you need to remove the slow jets and soak them in carb cleaner and clean them with a wire in order to ensure they are clean. Simply spraying them with cleaner WILL NOT work. They plug solid.

I think Denlimack is dead on.

Just go through a basic check list. Also get the Clymers Manual for your bike. It's a life saver.

This is what I think the bike needs to kind of flush itself out!

before ripping into the carbs i'd try a stock air filter. I've seen carbed bikes not run right just because of that.

Orly? News to me.

Try this:
Unhook the main fuel feed from the carbs, drain the bowls and leave the screws open, send some high PSI into the fuel feed. Close everything up and rehook fuel line and try to fire it up.

If that doesn't work, I'll bet denlimack's left nut that at least one of the floats is in upside down.

Who cleaned the carbs originally??
