Can't wait to see how its coming along
never actually seen projectors at night, reckon they're actually any use in the dark? yeah i reckon when it comes to headlight position an inch might as well be a mile!

anyway some pictures.

front on, lookin' good...

side on... not so good haha its about 2 mile out.

just looks a bit ridiculous does it not, bit of a shame because its quite a smart headlight bracket i reckon.

conveniently found these two strips on my bros spare top yoke from his vfr. he asked what they were for and i simply responded ''oh they're mine!'' P= haha still trying to convince him to fighter his, they make a crackin' looking fighter

where the headlight would sit in an ideal world but to modify it or bolt it up like that would just be a bit crude.

found these in the shed though, score! spares from the gs. just going to need to fab up a wee 90 degree bracket to mount them to the clamps. since found a handful of what were once stainless kitchen fittings that i'm going to hack up tomorrow hopefully.

some handy space for hiding wires in as well.

speedo is going to help fill the empty space up quite well, still need to decide on what kind of height I'm going to keep it at though.

looking at it from here, id love to relocate the ignition switch and have the speedo in its place but it would be an inconvenience not to have a steering lock (which i almost have working at the moment)

managed to procure the bar end mirror from the thunderace as well, reckon its probably going to be a bit useless on the road though.

final photo for today, yeah i'm hanging fire on wiring up the speedo at the moment, need to use the old speedo to figure out at which current the air vent solenoid switches but the brother has pinched his multimeter back, how inconsiderate of him =P headlight should be properly bolted on tomorrow though and i'll prep that front mudguard so i can get it painted.

once i've sussed out just how much the front end is going to drop (need to whip the forks off to get an unladen measurement) i may be looking at an f4i shock, been reading that theres about a 1.5 - 2'' rise on the back with it so as long as gpfan was right about there only being a 5mm or so drop with the 929 front end i'll go for it and maybe lengthen the dog bones to drop it an inch if it feels ridiculous. would look sweet with the back end jacked up but at the end of the day it gets used for fairly fast paced road riding so function indefinitely holds bias over form. also looking at installing a steering dampener from another model or whatever i find really, can pick them up for as little as £15 used which is pennies really.

the reason as to why is that the f3 shock is starting to get a little bit tired and i have plans to use it on the gs build once the cbr is (mostly) done and out the way.

Bar end mirrors are in fact much more convenient than you`d think. I had the same worry about mines until I took the bike for a spin. Sure you have to first look for it before looking at it until you get used to where they are, and doing so requires more than just moving your eyes so some could criticise them for having to look away from the road but I don`t see that as an issue since I don`t race on normal roads and on the track you tape them anyway. And to my surprise they don`t vibrate at all so the vision is clear.

Feel your pain with the headlight brackets. Those are good looking ones but just about half a mile too long... Got projectors on my bike and had to do a bit of work to get them as back as humanly possible so they won`t stick out so bad. They are in fact much more powerful than normal reflector lights because the lens gathers the beam, there`s less light on the sides and more where you need it. Of course depending on the lens, but riding in the dark you don`t wanna watch for owls on the trees do you?

Personally I never ever use the steering lock so when I was getting rid of my ignition didn`t even spare a thought for it but I guess where you guys live there are much more bike thefts than here where they to my knowledge are fairly to very rare.

Wow, the first pic you posted from the front looks awesome! Its a shame how far out it sits. But the black mounts you found look great!

Projectors focus light so that you can see further down the road, but the shortest ones seem like a country mile long.

thats good to hear mattson, about all they really get used for is checking for police coming out of but up areas if I'm honest haha but the stock mirrors on the f3 were excellent, reckon they saved my license at least twice xP

with headlights i never feel like theres enough sidelight, well for good paced night riding in the twisties anyway but lets face it, shouldn't be doing that anyway lolz but desperately looking for the apex when the bike isn't quite round enough yet in the dark is pretty effing' scary haha i was actually quite tempted to mount the headlight directly to the frame just so that it was fixed straight like a faired bike rather than facing the opposite direction when you go into a corner but it would have meant having a long enough bracket to give it clearance on the forks and the gain in light wouldn't have likely been noticeable.

have you got your projectors mounted vertically or horizontally just out of curiosity? would love to hide a couple of projectors behind a mx numberplate =P actually, got any pictures?

yeah bike theft is a bit hit and miss around here, i could leave the keys in the bike for a month and it'd likely still be sitting but its just better to not temp fate . to me not having a steering lock is like inviting someone to literally walk away with the bike. none of my mods are covered under my insurance policy either (they are aware of the mods, just don't offer cover on them) so the front end wouldn't be replaced should i need to claim.

tell me about it dude, in the middle of sorting it though, so glad i still had had the gs brackets sitting haha perfectly example of why its worthwhile holding onto stuff.

yeah i noticed they look quite long, definitely looking at using projectors on a build somewhere down the line, quite fancy doing a quad projector set up or a twin single 7'' placed vertically haha

slightly on the crude side for now but i'll crop those edges up with the dremel and have it looking tidier.

by all means not perfect but far tidier than it needs to be, i'll get some paint on them to hide them.

not sure what it is but something looks odd to me, still a huge improvement though. could just be the black on silver thats throwing me but i'll check it out and fiddle with it in the daylight. glad to see it with a much tighter fitment. actually looking back at it i think its the slight gap between the clamps and the black bracket, theres still a bit of adjustment to play with so i'll get that sorted. i'll probably take some excess material off of the black brackets as well.

Can be a bit of a challenge to get those things behind a straight plate, they`re pretty much butt up against the steering column... More pics of different angles in my build thread (link in my sig below) Bit of an old pic as the bike hasn`t been a) as close to being together b) outside since summer.

offt! was not expecting to see a daytona there haha i think you might be on the wrong forum here nah its a pretty cool build, do like the headlights but they're just far too forward, do like the tail, it works well with the tank and frame. don't you just wish there was an easy workaround for headlight woes though.

not quite how i would have it but i love this kind of headlight set up

theres a video on rideapart ^^ of that cbr, hellishly cool mad max vibes going on with it. tyres look savage as well.

tweaked the bracket height so that the bolts line up a bit better, happier with it but i'll likely come back to it at some point.

spent half of today playing with wire routing ideas to no real avail, then stripped back the front half of the loom as I'm needing to extend wires for one of the indicators, the headlight and for the fusebox being relocated to under the seat. was playing with the idea of having the fusebox in beside the coils but realised how much of an inconvenience it could be having to take the tank and airbag off to get to the fusebox should i need to, so under the seat makes a lot more sense.

had a bit of a ''**** it'' moment and just removed the air solenoid as well, i do like the idea of retaining the dual stage ram air but i don't have the time to mess about with it, so hopefully i'll come back to it... even though its recommended that you bypass it when you rejet... and that i do plan on rejetting haha

pics to come when i finalise the wiring & properly mount the new speedo.
