Bike starts, runs for 5 mins and then dies
Hey all, this is my first post in this forum as I am new to bikes. I recently bought a 95 F3, and it was working completely fine for the first few weeks until I was riding home from school and the bike died on me (throttle had no response could not rev and bike died). I got it towed and left it for a few days came back to it and it ran for 15 minutes until the same problem happened. The engine turned over but wouldn’t start until a day later where it started and ran for a few minutes before dying again. The bike also smells like fuel (maybe running rich) the times I got it to start. Any ideas what could be happening?

Hey there. Sounds like you may have a vacuum issue. The next time you experience this try opening the fuel cap. If you hear a sucking or whooshing sound and the bike comes back to life, that’s your problem.

Too rich mixtures may be sign of float-valves not working properly. This lets fuel-level get too high in carb-bowls. This dumps in too much fuel into engine, which may not even evaporate fully and still be liquid. Which doesn't burn and that's why you're smelling it out backend since it passes through unburned. Also risks hydrolocking your engine if enough petrol leaks down into cylinders when bike's off.
Next time it dies, immediately do spark-test:
1. remove plug-wire
2. stick spare plug into it
3. ground case of plug to head, engine, or bare bolt on engine
4. crank engine
5. DO YOU SEE BRIGHT BLUE SPARK JUMP AT PLUG?
Sometimes, ignitors will go bad with age and fail when they get hot. If you still get spark when it dies, then not ignition problem, most likely petrol.
