My new one has a built in heat sink, way better than the original stock part.

Ditto. I had my Reg/Rec go out on the interstate 30 miles from home and it fried my new battery. I was stranded on the side of a busy Atlanta interstate during rush hour, not fun. My battery was actually blowing steam and whistling.
I got one with a built in heat sink as well. This part is notoriously weak on these models of Honda.
