Mine will only "deisel" when I start it back up after it's warm and been sitting for 5-10 minutes. When cold it makes no noise. It will only make the noise when warm for maybe 30 seconds or so and then I believe the oil gets in there and makes the tensioner do it's job. Well, at least I hope it's only the tensioner becuase that's one of the next repairs, and if that doesn't help, then I'll be doing valves, springs, and rockers this winter.

now that you say that, it does the same to me, only after its been restarted when its been warmed up already. starting up cold its usually ok. except for i generally have problems getting it started without rolling on the throttly. even with the choke on, ive been told your not supposed to give it throttle with the choke on. but it wont start otherwise. so i usually try to start it with the choke twice, if it wont, then i hit the starter button and roll on the throttle fer a sec to start it then let it warm up. it likes to warm up at 3k rpm when i start it with the throttle tho opposed to the normal 2k rpm without using the throttle to help start it...
