Default VR problem electrical problem?

ok so heres the thing. on my 1998 cbr900rr my battery died. so i had my friend hook it up to his charger, he left it on previous setting of 15a start function. which blew the fuse. before the battery died the bike jumped and carried on at low rpm's leading me to believe that the VR was bad. i took the vr off to test and it ran fine for a few seconds and then popped a fuse again, and the vr is melted a little on the top 3 flat pins, anyway, it keeps popping fuses and battery died, is my alternator bad, or my rectifier where are these components at and how do i test, i am working on u n winding all the tape and plastic wire wrap from the proevious owner to see if there is a short.. other than that what can i do and how do i test thank you.

First reinstall your regulator, And fully charge your battery. Warm it up to operating temp, Turn off bike and put a volt meter on the battery and turn on high beam. Start engine it should read 13 volts and rev up to 5000 rpm and voltage should go up to around 15.5 volts

Check your grounds on the bike for looseness or corrosion, and make sure the regulator has a good clean sync to the sub frame. This is a common cause of the plug melting on the RR, Ace hardware sells a product for about $5 called NO-OX and it will stop or prevent corrosion on your grounds
Hope this helps a little

What Hondas Rule says.

If you need a new regulator, there are better replacement parts than the oem one, here is one: http://www.regulatorrectifier.com/ca...ator-Rectifier
