noise when cold

@ Joe:
You may have had a rare case, but I guarantee you that one day your bike will run into the above mentioned problem that won't ever be fixed by an OEM CCT.
The worst possible scenario is that the hydraulic CCT goes bad and allows your cam chain to jump teeth, destroying your valves in the process. This won't ever happen with a manual CCT.

From my knowledge the automatic is spring force, which overtime will lessen.
This is from the APE website explaining the problems with OEM and why you should buy their manual CCT, "The automatic adjusters can back out when the throttle is closed suddenly at high rpm. This allows the cams to go momentarely out of time, and can result in bent valves and/or serious engine damage. Hydraulic tensioners have a tendency to put too much tension on the chain guide under high rpm/high oil pressure conditions, resulting in premature wear."

Nevertheless, if the noise on your bike sounds like that in my video, the hydraulic CCT must be the culprit.

As everyone else is saying I'd go for the CCT.
Mines was the same got an original replacement from Honda, lasted a couple of weeks then the rattle came back, usually when cold or when it had been switched off for a short period.
What did I do? Got my old one out the bin, drilled it out, chucked the spring away, threaded a hole in the top of the CCT and screwed threaded rod through and inside the plunger type bit and secured with a double nut. Then screwed the rod in until rattle stopped. Now a manual operated CCT.
This worked fine but a little oil started to seep from the nuts/thread, answer- some gasket seal round the nuts and thread job done and been running fine for the last year or 2- job done!
