Right, Honda offers different bearings because the crank, cases, and rods vary a little bit. Grab the manual and look at that section.

It may be different, but, generally, Honda uses a table to identify which bearing you need. For mains, there's usually letters stamped on the cases and numbers on the crank (or vice versa). Using the table in the manual will identify a color code for the bearing. You'll get "A2", for example, you'll go to the yable, to row A, column 2, and get "pink", or "green" - and thats the bearing you'll buy.

The rods will use the same sort of system (letters stamped on crank, numbers on rods). Its in the manual, read that section, it'll make sense.

However, if they polish the journals, you'll want to plastigage the clearances to identify which bearings you'll need. The color coded bearings still have the thicknesses stamped on them, so you can see which bearing you need.

But like demon said, wait and see until you get it back.

Man, you guys are great! I feel this is something I can really benefit from since I already split the case to do my transmission gears swap. Anything else I need to know?

Just a thought... if you lighten the crank, will tick over speed be affected adversely? The rotating mass of the crank will certainly cause changes to the operating characteristics.
OK if you're using the engine for track work but it might be a PITA if you're using it on the road. I could be wrong and have no first hand experience of engines modified in this way but I would imagine your tick over speed would have to increase a fair bit to keep it from stalling or running somewhat erratically unless you're going to reduce the compression ratio, which I'm sure you're not.
What benefit are you hoping to get from this mod? You should be clear about that.

Well, I have done a stage 5 jet kit, added a fuel pump and larger throttle tube and the motor lags from the crank trying to climb the Rpm's in response when I need it. I would like faster revving on command. These are great motors and I almost can keep up with my modern FI friends on the twisties, just need that little extra umph to get me there. That is why I am doing it since I already split the case to do the transmission work. Why Not?

Succinct answer Mpyre. Good luck. I hope it's worth the money. It sounds like you are more than qualified to make the call. Good luck with the gear box repair too.
Let us know how it goes, it's not every day we hear about crank mods.
