hot wire problem
ok im really confused and hope someone can help. i have a 92 f2 that wasnt running right, when hot the bike would bog and die till it cooled and the regulator rectifier was getting super hot also the red wire coming out of it is getting very hot within about 1 min of starting the bike. I put in a nre reg-rec and now its not getting as hot but the wire still is and im afraid to test ride it as i dont want to break down. anyone know why that wire might be getting hot? or have any ideas i just dont want to melt the wires at all
thanks alot
thanks alot
On my new reg/rec from honda the OEM plug (is your aftermarket reg using the same one?), I found that the spade connectors tend to get loose the more you unplug it. Take a small flat blade screw driver and close them to make a nice tight fit, it should require some effort to plug it into the reg/rec. Loose connection=heat, heat=fried diodes; heat is there worst enemy. You can also buy heat conducting grease to smear across the back of the reg to better transfer heat away from itself. Spade connectors are not great for transferring larger amounts of current and IMO were a poor design choice for honda to use in this application so keeping them tight is critical. Hope it helps mine is still good 4 years later.
