f2 to f3 motor swap question

RE: f2 to f3 motor swap question
Yea i would agree with hershey....youd have allot more than just mechanical stuff to deal with....the thing is...no matter what your looking at between 400-700 on any decent motor..and somewhere between 100-250 in shipping.....so if i were you id throw a 900 in there...youd end up spending an extra 100 on the ecu and the very small amount of steel you have to get...maybe a little more for headers and a slip on.....but allmost double what a stock f2 makes....for 200 extra dollars i dont think you can get much better than that. But if the f4 isnt a bad idea either.

RE: f2 to f3 motor swap question
The differences between an F2 and F3 engines are small, but many. The tranny synch is much better (gears are closer together). The tranny bearings are different, more efficient in the F3 (less friction, longer bearing life). The conrods and crank journals are beefier and stronger. The cylinder heads from the 98s are more efficient, yielding more power. There were 2 different heads in 98 (MAL and MBZ),the latter one being even better (MBZ).Just a few things here, but there are more.
An F4 motor would be cheaper and easier to find as well. You can find more low mile F4s than anything else .A low mile F3 motor is NOT easy to find.Trust me ,I'm hunting one now.

RE: f2 to f3 motor swap question
well its not that easy for a 900rr...but a beleive a f4 would be. but for a 900 you need to make some motor mount brackets for the bottom as those are the only ones that dont line up. Then you need to dent in the frame just ever so slightly so the carbs will slip in....nothing huge just like 2 or three hits with a ball peen. And then yes it is just a matter of the cdi as i understand......you can even use the stock f2 airbox and just drill new holes for it to mount. Talk to RSP919 if you want more detail..hes the one that told me about it and he inspired me to go ahead and do it.

DON'T EVER DRILL HOLES IN YOUR AIRBOX.Another F3 airbox is cheap enough (20-25 bucks).

RE: f2 to f3 motor swap question
Drilling new mounting holes for the airbox is not for the f3...just buy new ones for the f3....they may bolt idk..but for the 900 motor you either have to drill the new holes or run individual filters. And i highly doubt there is a different way..otherwise rsp wouldnt have done this.......idk if it sounds too sketchy dont do it
