Default RE: suspension settings?

I talked to some bike mechanic, he advises me to put in some new progressive springs instead of the old ones. Is this advisable? Will it bring something, or is it too much for this 1989 bike?

hoe much air should i put on it when assembled? i heared between 0,8 and 1,2 bar.

I'm no mechanic but upgrading suspension is one of the best things you can do for any high performance motor vehilce , many people will agree. If you plan on riding aggressively then stifferr springs would be good. I spent many days researching on the net the recommended settings for my older 1996 600F3 and then test riding and it made a huge difference in my ability to corner faster. your weight (lbs) and riding stlye are major factors.
I now have a naked 1990 600f and i am intrested in setting this suspesion up for my riding style and weight also. I don't think there is alot of adjustment!

just a preload screww at he top of the fork. more modern bikes have rebound, damping,and/or compression adjustmets. common sense helps determine which each setting does.

preload = weight settings
compression= travel distance
damping = flow of oil/air in fork to settle the bike over bumps
rebound = spring rate back up

I may be a little off but this is how I view them via mountian bike/downhill bikesettings too!

Hope this helps you or anybody to ride smoother and faster. I know I will consider these setting and adjustments with evey motorcycle I own.

pred adjusting and emulators and stuff is not for me. a 1989 bike didn't have it on, so i think i just go with new progressive springs and good fluid. If i still need something changed, i can chenge te airpressure, or put in different fluidlevels. that's it.

google racetech and look on their site. they have a comprehensive checklist of everything you need for the forks including pricing. all you really need to do is choose spring rate/type, rider weight (that's everything, leather, boots, etc.), and whether or not you want emulators. i went with heavier springs @ 150-160 lbs. w/ emulators. this was a good setup for me, far less front end dive under heavy braking, not excessively harsh or stiff on bumpy roads. this set me back a few bones at the time but was great till i did a frontend swap.
