front sprockets have a mm or two play on the shaft and in effect float on the
shaft even when the bolt is tight..... always

Put bike in gear and use a breaker bar with your socket to get leverage.

 

The play in on and off the shaft. So it just slides on the splines.

 

I did the -1 in front +2 in the rear on my 89 cane recently... Definitely gave it a little more get up and go but not as much of an improvement as I thought it would be.... I feel that the Stock setting is better in my opinion... Has anyone gone the other way and tried for more top end? if so id like to hear some thoughts.... thanks everyone
