well the noise came back, so I pulled it apart again and fattened up the jetting, thinking it was a knock. nope. so I changed out the new cct with th eold one. that fixed it. what would cause a new cct to make a racket and the old one not too?? my chain real stretched or something??

on the manual cct, how much adjustment did you put into it. could've been too tight or too loose. i run an oem unit because i didn't want to bother with making adjustments every so many hundred miles. and i have had rather good luck with them.

if the oem adjuster is new then we'll leave that alone.

what remains is cam chain and cam chain guides.

how many miles on cam chain? could be stretched and end of its service life.

or cam chain guides are worn and at the end of their service life.

or both are worn and/or stretched.

no idea the age of anything other than the new cct. all I know is that the new cct makes noise, the olod one does not, at least nothing as bad as the new one! the new one sounded terrible, like a bad bearing or stuck valve. why would that happen?? guess I am not sure of what was physically happening. thanks!

have you seen any physical difference between the 2 when you had them out?

you might try submersing the new cct in a cup of oil, and pump it a few times toprimeit. i wonder if its a oil pressure/flow problem. with it off, you could use a socket extension to manualy tension the chain. crank the engine with ignition off, and it should squirt oil pretty good.
