Default fuel grade and mileage?

just wondered what you guys get out of a tank of gas on average, and what grade you run.

I'm presently getting something close to 50mpg from my bike with regular unleaded, but I think I need to bump up to mid grade because I'm experiencing some pinging at various rpms.

I have always ran premium pump gas... occaisionally 101 octane aviation fuel. Lets face it it is a sport bike... if you wanted max fuel mileage
buy a scooter.

frankly, I'm on something that AVERAGES 2-3X better fuel economy than most cars, while STILL being faster than 90% of production cars on the street, for me, long as I'm pulling 40mpg I'm happy. I just asked so I could compare with what others are getting from their hurricanes.

You realize the manual states 91 RON (research octane number). Hear in the USA our octane scale is measured my RON+MON/2. 91 RON when calculated into our octane scale is roughly 86 octane. Basically our 87 octane is what the manual says to run.

I kinda figured as much, being its not a high performance sportbike(compared to the brand new 600RR, but I do note something sounding like a pinging coming from the right side cylinder, but now I think I understand it, the gas station next door to me sells one grade of fuel and one ONLY. regular, but their version is something like 82-85 octane I think. evidently my other bikes(EX500, GS500, CB550K) didnt complain because they were really slow and low performance machines in contrast to this one, which did notice and like women who get fake diamonds, is pissed at me.

I've been kinda wondering what you guys get for mileage on the highway, and what RPM's you run it at. The reason is I'm planning my first big trip before winter. And Im trying to plan out gas stations etc. I've just been mostly cruising around me city up till now.
I've only been runing 91, would it hurt the performance compared to regular?

i get between 43-47 mpg highway @ 75mph @ 5500rpm on 87 octane. steady throttle cruising. stock gearing. loaded with two 47 liter side bags.

running a lower octane should not hurt anything but your performance will be slightly less. so unless your bike is jetted, kitted, or what have you, orplan on racing during your trip i wouldn't worry about it.
