Default Very pissed off.....

Bought my 2010 new last november, great bike, goes like a bomb, but...... using 400 mills of oil every 2000 kms. Honda says they all do that and cant be fixed. I have owned more Hondas than I can recall, but this is the last one. Has anyone else experienced this on a later model CBR1000RR?

Thanx Guys..
Bernie.

Its going to be something that will haunt Honda for a long time. They had a very serious issue with the 08 model and some issues with the 09. Their lack of action to fix the issues really spawned internet bashing. I can't blame people though. If I was in the market for a new bike in 09, I doubt I would have bought a 1000RR just based on all of the reported issues.

I haven't heard of too many issues with the 2010 model though. It seemed like the issue was gone as most have not reported any problems. The strange part is that the issue wasn't consistant. Only some models had the issue while others never had a problem.

I guess the best course of action is to keep after Honda and see what they do for you. And keep us posted here of the results.

That was more of a problem with some of the 08 model years. It was supposedly fixed for the 10. For the 08 Honda wouldn't do anything about it unless it was using more than 1 qt of oil per 1,000 miles.

If yours uses more than that (I don't have time to do the metric conversion right now) then contact your local dealer and tell them you want it fixed under warranty. If they say it is normal for a high output sport bike then contact Honda direct.

Oil issue or not the 1000RR won the superbike smackdown challenge two years running. It is a dream machine and having to add a little more oil now and then is not a big deal in exchange for a bike of this caliber. I have an 08 and have not had any oil related problems with it in 10,000 miles thus far.

Wouldn't this whole thing have also something to do with how it was broken in? Oil-eating and dirty pistons = soft break in almost every time.

I suppose Honda never explicitly stated what the causes were in those units that were fixed?

If that was a potential cause, you would see it anything with an engine, not just the 1000RR of a specific year range. They had no issues until they designed a new engine for the 08 model. So you can sum up it was something either designed incorrectly, or something out of tollerance.

I doubt you will ever hear what the reason was. Im sure Honda found it and fixed it quietly. They denied the issue for so long, and even went as fast as to say a quart of oil every 1,000 miles is normal. They surely couldn't come back and say we fixed it if there stance is there is nothing to fix.

I just hope the 2012 version doesn't have any issues. I plan on buying a new bike next year, but I will probably hang onto the 05 for a few months just to make sure alls well.

Honda just sent me a letter extending my warranty for another 4 years. I think they will take care of their customers.

I heard there have been a couple recalls on the late year CBR1kRRs... besides the more recent clutch issue (I think) there was also a recall on the piston rings? These are murmurs that have reached my eyes from random forums so take it with a grain of salt, but your best bet is to call your dealership with your VIN and see what they say.

Just keep in mind you've got a bike that goes like a raped ape and stays competitive based merely on the fact that the fundamentals of the bike are so thoroughly well built without the need for fancy electronics. It ain't all that bad.
