Stator problem acknowledged by Honda
Good News!
I got a letter from Honda a few days ago indicating that they are giving a 6 yearextended warranty on theACG (charging system)on all 04-05 CBR 1000RR. I know some of you guys/gals have had some problems with this component on your bikes. For those of you who already spent money, you may be eligible for a reimbursement. Here's what they are saying:
"American Honda has determined that riding a 2004-2005 CBR1000RR motorcycle in the low RPM range for an extended period of time may cause the ACG to overheat, which causes a short circuit of the stator windings, resulting in insufficient battery charging.
If your CBR1000RR is starting normally, you do not need to do anything at this time.
If, however, your 2004-2005 CBR 1000RR is becoming increasingly difficult to start (such as after refueling during a ride), because the engine cranks slowly or will not crank at all, the battery may have discharged while riding due to a faulty ACG. (Note: This warranty extension does not apply to starting problems that result from improper battery storage or any other electrical system malfunction.)"
You can take your bike in to have the ACG inspected, but otherwise, you'll just have to wait until it breaks down on some canyon road before they will replace it under this extended warranty. It's not a recall, but it's better than nothing. If you have any beef, call Honda at (866) 784-1870.

Yep....got mine too..... im guessing you can easily test the voltage coming from the ACG witha multimeter.....im gonna have to dig into the service manual for how to do it..... I guess ill just have to keep watch on it....
i dont remember, but did that bullitin say the 6year extension was transferrable??

It doesn't say anything about transferability, but I do not see why it would not be transferable. There is another form that came with the letter that allows a former owner to indicate who the new owner is. The only issue would be for those who has made some electrical mods with aftermarket accessories.

Here's the bad news. After they do the repair the bike breaks down again in 3-4 months. Same crappy parts same crappy Honda service. Mine is on it's second full electrical warranty meltdown. Btw the bike is bone stock. Best thing to do is not buy another Honda. It's what I tell eveyrone to do and it's what me and all my friends are doing. Honda's warranty and customer service aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Ex Lifelong Honda Rider Btw contact your local news or customer service champion to shed some light on this problem which Honda keeps sweeping under the rug.

RE: Stator problem acknowledged by Honda
Hey got my CBR1000 back today after 3rd repair. It made it a whole block before breaking down this time. GO HONDAAA!!!! They replaced the stator, rectifier and wiring harness. Thanks Honda you built a great bike. Thanks for also stepping up to the plate and putting the same junk parts back into it that broke in the first place. Now that's quality. No wonder why i've rode Hondas for 30 years with that kind of reliability. Anybody wanna buy a bike I push around and still owe $4500 on? How bout you Honda? Probably not huh? They probably ride Suzukis. Ex Lifelong Honda Rider signing out till next so called repair.

My bike seems to be running fine after the warranty work. Sorry about you're luck!!! I would definately not buy another Honda if I went through what you're going through. Does the lemon law apply to motorcycles too? I'd tell them to give me a new bike.....
