SOMEBODY HELP !!!!! (Chain )
I am trying to do a front sprocket conversion and I have the wheel loose and all the bolts out of the cover/clutch caliper, but I can`t get the damn plastic sprocket cover off ! It seems to be getting stuck on the bottom between the water pump and the chain... Can anyone help me here ?!?!?!?!

Make sure the clutch slave cylinder is out of the way and the shifter is off the spline and out of the way. There are a couple of hoses that are in the area -- one has a splice in it that you can unhook and get more room. Other than that I just removed the bolts and wiggled it out -- water pump was a nonissue for me. Good luck.
Oh, don't break the chain until you get that sprocket bolt loose or you'll be sorry[:@]

I didn`t plan on breaking the chain, It still has under 2k miles so I figured mismatched wear wouldn`t be much of an issue. Everything is out of the way already (the hoses were separated/moved and the shifter shaft is swingin where my sidestand is).... Its just stuck between the chain and water pump....
I really don't know why it's stuck -- can you get it back to where it was and try maneuvering it another way? I was out looking at it again (was a while ago that I did the mod) and if I remember correctly I pulled the cover out slightly from the back and then from the top and it came right out. My biggest thing was aftermarket rearsets getting in the way.
Okay, I got it..... the metal plate between the cover and the engine case was REALLY stuck to the cover and was hangin up on the chain. I pried it loose with a BF screwdriver and the cover came right out.... Thank you for the replies, Chain.

Yeah, I was a little spooked for a minute. One more question..... It looks like there is a piece of rubber on either side of the factory front sprocket with 16T printed on it. Do I need to replace that thing too, or will the new sprocket be okay by itself ? What purpose does that rubber serve ?
